Within the European union all weighing equipment in use for “trade” must be EC Verified.

Only approved equipment can carry this verification and it differs to a calibration certificate.

If you are using your weighing equipment to create a transaction, for example you sell 1000Kg or 50g of widgets, the equipment you obtained the sale weight from must be EC Verified.
